Daily Coin Review - "News from Korea and the Candy Dole Out"

Daily Coin Review's unbiased News and Analysis

I. S. Korea preparing to “ban transactions in Virtual Currency through exchanges”
South Korea is at it again. One of the largest cryptocurrency trading markets in the world, South Korea is again rattled by regulatory interference in crypto trading. The Government has announced that it will float a bill in the Parliament to ban all cryptocurrency trading.
This comes after multiple raids by tax authorities on several prominent crypto exchanges; including Bithumb and Coinone. It’s also worth noting that in December the Korean Financial Commission prohibited anonymous trading in cryptocurrencies and mandated that trading happens through only Real Name Accounts (KYC verified accounts).
The Korean Justice Minister Park Sang-Ki said – “There are great concerns regarding virtual currencies and the Ministry is preparing a bill to ban cryptocurrency trading through exchanges”.
Let’s analyze the two key parts of this statement:

1) Preparing a Bill: To ban cryptocurrency exchange trading, the Korean Government will need to pass a law in its Parliament. This would require creating a bill, presenting it to Parliament for discussion, voting on it, and then signature of the President.
The process can take months or even a year to complete. Also, there are 297 members in the Korean Parliament, and the vote would require a majority of members to vote in favor of banning cryptocurrency trading.
Regardless, the ban is not likely to come into effect in the near future. It may take months before this happens.
2) Trading through Exchanges: The Government plans to ban cryptocurrency trading through exchanges only. However, like we have seen in China, the market can move to OTC (Over the Counter) trading very quickly. While there may be a reduction in the activity, the Bitcoin mania can still be expected to stay strong in the Kimchi nation.

II. Kimchi Premium under threat? Lessons from China
Bitcoin prices in South Korea are usually 30% higher than rest of the world, the difference popularly labeled as the “Kimchi Premium”. With the recent confusion coming from the news on the South Korean Government taking steps to ban exchange based cryptocurrency trading, it seems like a good time to reflect on the past a little.
China banned all cryptocurrency exchanges late last year. In what was expected to be a catastrophic move for the markets, the impact of the action on the world’s second largest economy was not as bad as expected.

Total Crypto Market Cap grew 4x post China ban

Post the China ban, the combined market cap of crypto assets went up more than 4 times. This goes to show how short-lived the impact of Governmental clampdown is on the crypto juggernaut.
The Governments eventually wake up to reality and then reverse their decisions. A lot of industry veterans are already of the opinion that it’s only a matter of time before China lifts the crypto exchange ban.

III. BCH Candy fork – Scam or a big PR stunt?
Despite all the FUD talk in the markets, Bitcoin Cash (BCH) has been one of the outperforming cryptos over the last 24hrs.
One of the reasons being stated is the upcoming BCH Candy hard fork. Some of details of the fork are:
• Hardfork height: 512666(Bitcoin Cash)
• Estimated hardfork time: 2018/01/13
• PoW algorithm: EQUIHASH(GPU)
• Supply: 21 billion
• Distribution ratio: 1:1000
• Pre-mine: Yes, 1% of supply will be pre-mined
• Block interval: 2 minites
• Replay protection: Yes
• Block size: 8M
• Segwit: No
• Difficulty adjustment: DAA

The above information is from the official website (www.bitcoincandy.one) However, it is surprising to see no major code updates or information available about this fork. Only 1 exchange family – (the now defunct) ViaBTC and (its child) Coinex – seem to be the only exchanges supporting this fork and doling out any PR for it.

Users have reported getting the following suspicious email from ViaBTC/CoinEx.

While DailyCoinReview can’t confirm to the correctness of the email, we would like to highlight the lack of any GitHub changes with regards to this whole event.
The good part about this – It is a classic fork. This means you don’t need to transfer BCH to any exchange. Just keep them in your own wallet and the CDY coins would be credited at the time of the fork.

Until the next Bulletin!

Governments Are Beginning to Accept the Undeniable Future of Digital Currency - Rattling the Blog

Over the span of two years, India has done a complete about face turn on their stance towards virtual currencies. In December 2013, the Reserve Bank of India issued a press release cautioning users of Virtual Currencies against “Risks”. The release emphasised the potential threat of being hacked, the absence of “an authorised central agency which regulates such payments,” the volatility in the value of digital currencies, and the use of virtual currencies for “illicit and illegal activities.” The announcement rippled through the Indian economy, ultimately resulting in a number of Bitcoin platforms suspending operations.
However last December, almost precisely two years after its initial warning, India’s central bank seems to have come around, issuing a report on financial stability. The report encompassed a statement highlighting the potential benefits of the blockchain technology underlying Bitcoin and other digital currencies. In contrast to the Indian Governments initial stance, the recent report highlighted the blockchain’s “potential to fight counterfeiting” and likely effect on the “functioning of financial markets, collateral identification…and payments systems.”
The Reserve Bank’s change of heart doesn't come as a surprise. It follows in the wake of governments from all around the world, many of which previously expressed scepticism toward a new technology which had been associated with drugs and child pornography. Fortunately years of development are starting to pay off with more and more Governments coming around, having developed a more nuanced understanding of Bitcoin and the block-chain. In the US, California seemed poised to declare war on bitcoin as an illegal payment method in 2013, yet only one year later passed legislation formally authorising virtual currencies. The regulation of virtual currencies in Russia, the United Kingdom, Singapore (and others) has followed a similar path.
This trend should be kept in mind when assessing the long-term feasibility of virtual currencies and other “disruptive” technologies. It is an example the initial scepticism often give way in time to a more savvy understanding of a technology’s potential benefits vs costs. As humans we inevitably fear that which we don’t understand, the trick is being open to developing an understanding. Digital currency still has a long way to go but, fortunately, more and more governments are now understanding the value of virtual currencies and blockchain technology.

There was an Explosion, & then Applause, at the World Trade Center.

Today in Downtown Los Angeles, at the Beautiful Westin Bonaventure Hotel and Suites, is the National Security Conference for 2013, & what better way for a National Security Celebration to start than with a Bang.
Let me start this again, without the blatantly inconsiderate & facetious presence…
The Giant Jumbo Screen on Figueroa between 4th & 5th street had the lighten phrase, “When Homeland Security meets Hometown Security”. Up on Hope Street was the Civilian Celebration gearing up the human parade to march boldly through the makeshift metal latter supports for the descending American Flag; a haunting & humbling tribute to the memory of 9/11. I found myself sitting in between with a cup of hot tea, not sincerely knowing what to expect. That the sound of gunfire was about to echo through the streets of Los Angeles was a given, as I had received, as did many other property managers & security personnel, an advance warning to the day's activities. The Channel 5 News & a slew of other media personal, including three very lucky & brightly dressed ladies who were given an exclusive front row seat to the descending Military Helicopter. They looked wonderfully excited, making sure to take plenty of selfies with the Armored Police Mobile Units clearly in sight.
There goes my cynicism again…
As I sat, carefully sipping my hot tea, or attempting to anyways, those attending the conference hastily passed by with a sort of excited look plastered to their faces. I would go into further details about the expression, but I was initially unable to put my finger on their expressions; Were they excited that this would be the first Urban Terror Field Training Exercise in the heart of a Major metropolitan? Was it a slight fear of bearing witness to a simulated urban “terrorist incident”? Or was it that their entire moral framework came into question considering that Homeland Security & the LAPD were creating such a terrifying demonstration of explosions & gunfire, when all crime in the United States has been it’s lowest for the 5th straight year, only for the DSH to incentivize a need to further fund for an anxious &, “ambiguous inevitability”.
“Terrorism” is a concept, not a tangible individual nor faction. There are people who inflict terror: There is no such thing as a Terrorist. However, out Government has declared a War against an “Ism”; We should not be at war against an intangible concept, of which, we are becoming the greatest perpetrators (Perps & Traitors) of this enforced & expensive philosophy. The war does nothing more other than allow for dismissing acts of terror on citizens as a, "public necessity" to counter 'acts of terror' by anyone, anywhere, at any time, except, of course, from the authorities that institutionalized it's citizens to be constantly afraid and reliant on the same authorities that promote an endless war on, "Terror". The problem, in a War against a Complex, (The War on "Terror" being an intangible war against anything and everything at all times) is that this War have effectively created a Police State, based on the sole fact that, "Since we are at War with a Constant Fear (Terrorism), then the Military must have a Constant Governance..." & here's what hurts me the most, "... or else, Terrorism 'may' occur."
Let me be clear about the term, “Ambiguous Inevitability”. The term, “Ambiguous Inevitability” has another name, which is called, “Reality”. It is in this, “Reality” where we define our lives & our understanding of our lives by the constant choices we make. If we define our lives to be lived in constant fear, then our realities shall adjust to become as such. If we define our lives to be lived in constant joy, then our realities shall adjust to become as such. Both spectrums reflect a certain truth & nativity, but what is important to understand that the “Ambiguous Inevitability” must lend itself to both inevitable truths; the biggest problem with anxiously anticipating an inevitable & omnipresent Terror is that joy must be suppressed in order to properly anticipate a constant incoming danger: Skid Row was my teacher.
“It’s 5:59 a.m. You have one minute to get your ass off the concrete or you’re under arrest.” Imagine waking up to this truth every single day for over five years, barely getting enough sleep from the night before as you’ve built a strong enough of a community to sleep well enough around, but not enough to keep the stray junkies off your back, leading from restless night after restless night, questioning alongside the piling tickets for not picking up your identification from the ground fast enough if being raped or killed in Cold-Ass County would be a better option than trying to get your life back together in these hard streets. You hear rumors that Carol Schatz with the Central Cities Association is trying to fight the Supreme Court Ruling protecting Skid Row residents from the LAPD, but regardless that she drafted the documents that gave Villaraigosa the ability to take city money from Skid Row & give it to the largest Architectural Firm in the World, of which, provided no jobs & continues to be debates as a theft of tax payer money, you just need a bite to eat. There’s word that United Way’s program, “Home for Good” is offering an actual residence to Skid Row residents such as yourself, but you can’t shake the feeling that the projected completion date of 2016, which coincidentally resides alongside the Wilshire/Grand Project, the Beautification of Broadway, and the now failed Farmers Field Stadium completion date, (of which, Gensler was given the money to unofficially work on, as Villaregosa promised) which makes the foundation of the gesture seem more like a scapegoat than sincerely extending a helping hand, but what would you know, being crazy and homeless anyways. Terror is a constant reality, from not getting enough sleep on the cold & uncaring concrete, to constantly uncertain whether your attempts to get your life back together are even wanted by this society in a depressed economy, let alone the unwanted feeling you get when people will not even look at you in fear they either would be guilted into offering pocket change, fear they might be attacked by the crazy homeless they keep hearing about on the news, or worse, understand the moral quandaries that are inherent when faced with a humanizing reality and trying to walk off that extra strong cocktail so that they can be ‘sober enough’ to drive home, & far away from you. When you see the wild eyes of a homeless individual, know that they have only known fear, & understand that when one suppresses joy, an even greater inevitable truth will resonate stronger than any uncertainty; Fear can only grow Fear.
The DHS’s job is not easy by any means. To actively maintain the civil control of a depressed economy, the worldwide spread of revolts, maintaining the 90% quota as requested by the Corrections Corporation of America, the theft & depreciation of United States Currency from foreign & local bankers by either blatant loopholes or hidden technology such as Bitcoins being used on a constant basis by Goldman Sach & Merrill Lynch which then becomes the silent implications of invisible trading in the billions, what control do they really have? The demonstration they displayed today was a last resort shock display of prowess, of a once proud lion which understands that the open Plain’s resources are wearing thin, so it must retreat to the Jungle, where it roars as loud as it can to display it’s own importance to all who hear. The initial blast was indeed shocking, as the brightly dressed ladies quickly snapped from joyfully romping alongside the news reporters to dropping their glow, retreating into a solemn expression, & that’s when it hit me. The expression earlier on all of the National Security Conference attendees' faces this entire time was that of hiding a sincere worry within a bright smile. It’s the same face a child makes when they lie about spilling the juice; each individual knows that they are participating in creating a dominate fear which is meant to instill power over criminal and, “Terrorists” alike, but their very participation is the act of creating that exact same fear from which they wish to combat; possibly, the only certainty that allows them to sleep at night is knowing, “At least it’s me that is pulling the trigger”.
There was an Explosion, & then Applause, at the World Trade Center. A Flag flew High on Hope Street, the sound of machine gunfire rattled down Figueroa, a Military Helicopter tore apart the limbs of a tree, & as I walked away from the terrifying scene of Homeland Security’s proudest display of patriotic affection as the following seven explosions echoed in the chasm of the silent & shocked streets behind me, America pretended that it grew a little safer that day. I would describe it as self-imposed Stockholm syndrome, but then again, I’m not pulling the trigger.
We should all seek to better understand the phrase,
